5/30/18 - 4th-6th Grade Chorus Performance of "The Castaways"
-
On May 30, members of the 4th-6th Grade Chorus performed their Spring Musical “The Castaways” for students at the elementary school.
"The Castaways" is a historical fiction musical play based on the real-life experiences of the orphan train riders in the United States between 1854 and 1930. During this time more than 200,000 children who were homeless and living on the streets of large East Coast cities were put on trains and sent to live with families in the Midwest. The musical brings to the forefront the fact that children living on the streets, homeless, hungry and alone is a problem that has historically transcended time and generational boundaries. Moving between contemporary scenes and the Depression-era, “The Castaways” is a powerful tale of upheaval and resilience, second chances and unexpected friendship.
The 4th-6th Grade Chorus, led by Elementary Music Teacher Mrs. Marcinkowski, also held an evening performance for family members and the community on May 31.
