Transportation
Welcome
The Transportation Department at the Oriskany Central School District coordinates the transportation for approximately 600 students daily. This includes 11 regular and special-education student trips, twice a day, to and from the District’s elementary school, and the Jr./Sr. high school. In addition, the Transportation Department serves the District’s special-education students, offering daily student shuttles and after-school programs.
The District applies a “double trip” procedure to many bus routes, such as transporting Jr./Sr. high school students to the high school and then sending the same bus to transport elementary students. Due to the staggered start times for different grade levels and buildings, this plan makes the most use of our school buses.
School bus drivers are the most highly trained, tested and observed drivers on the road. Oriskany Central School District bus drivers earn Commercial Driver Licenses (CDL) Class B with Air Brake, Passenger and School Bus endorsements. All drivers are fingerprinted and criminal-history-cleared by the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services (NYS DCJS) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Our bus drivers have annual medical exams and physical performance testing. They must pass scheduled and random drug and alcohol tests and in-service written and behind-the-wheel tests as required by the New York State Education Department (NYSED). The total transportation staff includes both bus drivers and bus monitors employed by the Oriskany Central School District.
Our Vision
The goal of the Oriskany Central School District’s Transportation Department is to provide safe and reliable transportation for all students eligible. Our bus drivers, as well as our monitors, are trained and certified in public transportation services, as well as preparedness for any scenario that may occur. We are constantly looking for ways to improve that will ensure every child receives the best worry-free transportation services possible.
