Welcome to Oriskany Jr./Sr. High School

  • Dear Student, Parents/Guardians and Community Members,


    Hopefully this message finds you and your family enjoying the end of summer weather as we are preparing our Jr./Sr. High School building for the 2019-20 school year. It has been a busy summer, both in terms of academics and maintenance.


    On the academic side, we have a number of students, who for a variety of reasons, have attended our 7-8 summer school program, 9 -12 summer school program and the two week review course for the August Regents. This year, the district provided transportation for these students, a practice that will be continued for future years.


    Several staff members and departments have participated in professional development programs, both in the district as well as regional and national initiatives. These opportunities will continue to provide staff members with the latest in curriculum and learning strategies to engage our students in the upcoming year. We will also be implementing a structured Learning Center this year. This will benefit students who need additional strategies to master skills necessary for their academic success. We will highlight the program and objectives in our monthly newsletter to grades 7-12 students and families.


    Student management initiatives include an in-school suspension program which will help students stay on track academically and also assist in resolving student management concerns. This program will replace the alternative suspension option for most of our student’s needs.


    Our maintenance staff has done a great job this year in preparing our rooms and hallways for our students return. They continue to take pride in their efforts and provide our students and Oriskany community with a clean, well-kept building for their use during the entire calendar year.


    We will continue this year with our 2019-20 Open House structure. We received positive feedback regarding the program presented last year. We have tweaked some items to improve our time frame and participation in this year’s Back-to-School evening which will be held on Wednesday, September 4. Students will receive their 2019-20 schedules and their Chromebooks that evening. Parents and students will be able to meet with their teachers and also receive a course outline specific to their scheduled classes. A detailed schedule for the evening events can be found on page 6.


    Please review the student handbook regarding the use of mobile devices and our position on student tardiness as both issues will be addressed using the student code of conduct procedures.


    Our instructional staff and administrative team will continue to provide each student and family open access to our programs and communications. If you have any questions or concerns please reach out to the appropriate source. We truly do have an open door policy. The hardest questions are the ones we do not hear. If you have any questions, please contact us by phone, email or text. If we do not have the answer right away, we will do our best to address it in a timely manner.
